Happy as a pig in sh**
I don't have anything of substance to write today, really, since it is Sunday, I'm a tad hung over (and by a "tad" I mean the USC marching band is playing "Another One Bites The Dust" in my head) but I could care less today. Why, do you ask?
The Chicago Cubs are the National League Central champions! On to the playoffs, Cub fans!
Now, most of you could give a bag of poo about the Cubs. Most of you see us Cubs fan as losers, as obnoxious clowns that you'd like to make take a long walk off of a short pier. Most of you are actually saying, "Matty, I don't give a bag of poo...now leave me alone with this drivel and get lost". And that's OK. I don't expect everyone to care about it and get all excited over a baseball team that hasn't won anything since 1908.
But I am excited over this, and I am planning a trip to the world's biggest beer garden party of the year, in Wrigleyville, on the North Side of Chicago.

I'm not kidding either, it'll be a monster party. Being a fan of this lovable loser franchise since I was nine years old, I think I deserve to hit Chicago with a huge bang, soak in the atmosphere that is October baseball, drink enough Old Style beer to drown a buffalo and overall enjoy the living **** out of this.
Because Lord knows when I'll see it again.

I'll see you at the World Series.

I can only speak for myself here, but from my personal feelings and what I've seen in other people, very few think of Cubs fans as "obnoxious clowns that you'd like to make take a long walk off of a short pier." In fact, there's something very American about being a Cubs fan, about rooting for the underdog and loving something that is guaranteed to break your heart. Before 2002, being an Angels fan was very similar, as we'd had our share of "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory," though not for as long a period as you have.
However, your statement hits Red Sox fans right on the nose.
Before 2004, I saw Sox fans and Cubs fans in the same light. But since a World Series Championship went to Boston, they've turned from loveable losers to clones of Yankee fans, only more obnoxious.
If your Cubbies win, you'll be fine so long as you enjoy it and don't get an inflated sense of self-importance and entitlement.
Of course, those Cubs fans who still hate Steve Bartman are already on the bad side of fandom. But from what I've seen, they are very, very few and their numbers overinflated by the media.
Good luck in October, and I certainly hope a World Series victory for the Cubs doesn't have to go through Anaheim...

Excellent point Sid. I know that I wont be a crappy should, errr...when the Cubs win. There is something to that lovable loser label too. I wonder what it'd be like without it.
Anaheim is tough for sure, but the AL is loaded. We shall see...

Hey there - Met fan here..I got to your blog linking through Beth's Yankee Chick blog. Yours is very good! And for the record, I may be a Met fan but I am not a typical Met fan - I actually just love baseball but my first loyalties are to the Mets. After that, I love them all. I am thrilled the Cubbies are in the post season. Your team played real hard and never let up. Sweet Lou was the difference I suspect. You also have Cliff Floyd, who was a Met fan favorite -
As for obnoxious fans, they are in every city. I even got called out by fellow Met fans! So I just ignore them all now - fans are passionate in every city. As I said, I love all baseball and after the Mets, I will watch any game with any team.
Good luck in the post season and I think it will be thrilling to see the games with the teams that have made it into October.!
